Cecile was born on March 19, 1940, in Parks. Cecile enjoyed spending many hours throughout the days working in her garden and yard. She would spend the afternoon planting and replanting flowers, tidying up, and just fiddling around picking out weeds. She could often be seen sitting on her bench in the front, watching the squirrels running around. She was an avid crossword puzzle player and could always be counted on to have several books and varieties at any given time...as well as quite a few pens in case any went out on her. Of course, she also loved spending time with her many siblings who would have regular gatherings, especially in recent years. They would reminisce on old times and argue about who was the youngest, prettiest, and favorite. They would laugh for hours and made it a point to look forward to their next gathering. She enjoyed playing Pokeno and other card games while sometimes making up little rules as she went, just to have a good laugh.
She was proud of her Cajun heritage. She loved listening and dancing to French music and speaking Cajun French in conversation. She was easy-going but also not afraid to share her opinion when needed. She was always happy to be a supportive, listening ear for many of her friends and family. She would listen, empathize with, and then tell you what she thought was the best course of action in a humble and gentle way. She was known to always have an open-door and always displayed that quintessential Louisiana Hospitality. She was motherly and warm to all those who entered and sometimes even served as the "neighborhood mom".
She and her late husband of 57 years, Lyness, enjoyed doing many things that revolved around the people, places, and things they loved the most. Their grandchildren were a special source of pride for them. They were active grandparents; babysitting and spoiling them, teaching them about family and local history, and always looking out for their future. They also enjoyed spending time traveling in and out of the state and would often go for car rides with no exact plan or destination in mind. They would pack a suitcase and an ice chest with their favorite soda and then hit the road to rôder. They were particularly fond of spending time at the Liberty Theatre in Eunice, where they developed several life-long friendships over their years. They were both generous with their time and known to lend a hand to anyone in need, without hesitation.
She is survived by her daughter, Roxanne Mestayer (Aaron); son, Lyness Frederick, Jr. (Kimberly); sister, Marella Hefner; grandchildren, Bryson Mestayer, Alyson Beslin (John), Ross Frederick (Shelly), Josh Frederick and Jessica Frederick; great-grandchildren, Kayne Frederick, Kadyn Frederick, Evin Frederick, Emily Frederick, Jack Frederick, Rhett Frederick, Brynn Savoie, Anna Savoie, Madelyn Beslin and Thomas Beslin.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lyness Frederick, Sr.; parents, Cyriac and Corrine Degeyter; son, David Frederick; brothers, Paul Degeyter, Cyriac Degeyter and Alfred Degeyter; sisters, Ann Dugas, Marylou Lassigne, Rita Domingue and Mary Claire Castille.
Pallbearers will be Lyness Frederick, Jr., Ross Frederick, Bryson Mestayer, John Beslin, Kayne Frederick and Kadyn Frederick.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Acadiana, especially Alyson, RN., to her caretakers Alberta, KayKay, Amy, Pam and Tiny, to Dr. Debra Durham and staff and Katie Hebert, NP and staff for all the wonderful care and support.
