St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, March 5, 2009, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Cecilia Marie "Duce" Delahoussaye Champagne, 95, who passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia.
Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Msgr. J. Douglas Courville will officiate at the funeral Mass. Readers will be Miriam Theriot and Kala Zaunbrecher. Gift bearers will be her grandchildren.
"Duce," as she was affectionately known by her family and friends, was a parishioner of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church; a devout Catholic she attended Mass on a regular basis as long as she was able. She loved working in her yard and was always concerned about the well-being of her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, all of whom she loved and adored.
Survivors include one son, Joseph P. "J.P." Champagne and one daughter, Mary Joyce Champagne, both of St. Martinville; two grandchildren, Janice Dupuis and her husband, Alvin, and Benny LeBlanc and his wife, Michele, all of St. Martinville; five great grandchildren, Miriam D. Theriot, Daniel Dupuis, Gerard Dupuis, Donney LeBlanc, Bradley LeBlanc, and Kala Zaunbrecher; and five great-great grandchildren, Sean Champagne, Layne Theriot, Jayde, Ty, and Bailey LeBlanc; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Champagne; her parents, Aristile and Cecile Landry Delahoussaye; and a brother, Henry Delahoussaye.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Wednesday and continue at 7 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.
A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Robert Keith Theriot, Daniel Dupuis, Gerard Dupuis, Donney LeBlanc, Bradley LeBlanc, and Ty LeBlanc.
Honorary pallbearer will be Sean Champagne.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Laura (Mom) Hebert, who provided her with outstanding care and love, and to the I.C.U. Staff at Dauterive Hospital.
