Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM, Thursday, January 11, 2024, at St. Bernard Catholic Church for Charlene Champagne, 76, who passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Wednesday, January 10th, from 10:30 AM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Thursday, January 11th, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM on Wednesday by Deacon Marcel "Butch" Hebert.
Rev. Garrett McIntyre will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Reader will be Laney Brewer. Gift bearers will be Linda LeBlanc and Nancy Latiolais.
Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Charlene Mary Champagne, born on January 17, 1947, Charlene's remarkable life was characterized by her immense kindness and compassion towards all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by those whose lives she touched.
During her time on this Earth, Charlene dedicated herself to serving others. She proudly served two terms as a Justice of the Peace, demonstrating her strong commitment to justice and fairness. Her integrity and passion for advocating for the rights of others were evident in every decision she made.
Beyond her illustrious career, Charlene had numerous interests and hobbies that brought joy and happiness into her life. She had a true love for animals and devoted much of her time to caring for her fur buddies, offering them the unconditional love only she could provide. Charlene also enjoyed spending leisurely moments playing Pokeno and indulging in the thrill of casino games. Her optimism extended even to scratch-off lotto tickets, always hoping for that lucky win. A devoted fan of the New Orleans Saints, Charlene followed each game with enthusiasm and cheered on her team through every victory and defeat.
Charlene Mary Champagne will forever be remembered as a beacon of light in our lives. Her contagious smile and caring nature touched the hearts of everyone she encountered. In times of joy or sorrow, Charlene was always there to lend a helping hand or offer kind words of comfort.
She is survived by her brothers, Gerald LeBlanc and Terry LeBlanc; and her sister, Carol Scrantz.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James Woodrow LeBlanc, Sr. and Bersie Bijeaux LeBlanc; husband, Robert Champagne; brothers, Joseph R. LeBlanc and James "Jimmy" Woodrow Leblanc Jr.; and her infant son.
Pallbearers will be Randy LeBlanc, Mark LeBlanc, Nicholas Stelly, Lonnie Champagne, Jamie Latiolais, Johnny Champagne.
Honorary pallbearer will be Brett LeBlanc.
