Charles Joseph Bienvenu, Jr.

November 7, 1905 — February 13, 2007

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather St. Martinville A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM, Friday, February 16, 2007, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, in St. Martinville for Charles Joseph Bienvenu, Jr., 101, who returned home to his father on February 13, 2007, in the presence of his loving family. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Rev. Austin Leger, pastor of St. Martin de Tours will be the Celebrant of the funeral mass. Mr. Bienvenu graduated from SLI, where he played football; continuing his education he also graduated from LSU. He was a teacher for 38 years, having taught in Erath and Abbeville. He was an assistant principal, and basketball coach at Erath High School and he also worked for the Welfare Department in St. Martinville. He proudly served our country during World War II in France, where he met his wife of 61 years. They made their home in St. Martinville in the house in which he was born and continued to live there for the rest of his life. Survivors include his wife Marie Therese Poulain Bienvenu of St, Martinville; son, Charles J. Bienvenu, III and wife Patsy Lantier of The Woodlands, TX; daughters, Annette Lucas and husband Wayne Edward of Richmond, VA and Michele Coulon and husband Dennis of Terrytown; grandchildren, Danielle Lucas Mitchell, Wayne Lucas, Jr., Matthew Duward Lucas, Christopher Coulon, Charles Bienvenu, IV, Christine Bienvenu McArdle and Stephen Bienvenu; 5 Great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Bienvenu, Sr. and Zoe Barras Bienvenu; brother, Martial Bienvenu; sisters, Elmire Beslin, Camille Donlon and Orlean Halphen A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, in St. Martinville. A rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM Thursday. Visitation will continue Friday from 10:00 AM until time of service. Throughout his 101 years, his faith in God and his devotion to his family filled his life. Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
