Arnaudville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Saturday, September 10, 2011, at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville, for Charles Gordon, 61, who passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at his residence. Fr. Keenan Brown will officiate at the funeral Mass with Deacon Jim Davis serving as concelebrant. Scriptures will be read by Karen Colston, Shelly Gordon, and Chad Broussard. His sisters will present the gifts to the Altar. Interment will follow at St. John Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville. Charles was a truck driver in the oil industry for many years and did mechanic work as well. In his free time he enjoyed playing with his pets, gardening, watching television, especially wrestling, old westerns, Tarzan movies, and being the practical joker that he was, he loved watching 'The Three Stooges.' Charles, like his father, loved music, particularly Zydeco and Rythem and Blues. He was a man who adored his loving family and treasured the many times that he could spend with them, especially his grandchildren, who meant the world to him. Survivors include his loving wife of 15 years, Vernette Williams Gordon of Henderson; one son, Regonald Scruggs of Little Rock, Arkansas; one daughter, Mandy Etienne and her husband, Patrick, of Breaux Bridge; three brothers, Henry C. Gordon, Jr., and his wife, Leona, of Houston, TX, Russell Gordon and his wife, Verler, of Lafayette, and Ronald Gordon and his wife, Madeline, of Arnaudville; five sisters, Betty Gordon of Arnaudville, Jo Ann Chevalier and her husband, Earl, of New Orleans, Lee Elda Gordon of Lafayette, Sandra Jolivette of Arnaudville, and Claudette Calais and her husband, Lawrence, of Arnaudville; and seven grandchildren, Regina Akers, Alissa Scruggs, Treven Scruggs, Thomas Cook, Katelyn Cook, Alex Scruggs, and Kylie Scruggs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Clay Gordon, Sr. and Theresa Simon Gordon; paternal grandparents, Clay and Arsand Gordon; maternal grandparents, Charles and Ella Simon; and his brother-in-law, Larry Jolivette. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Pallbearers will be Lenel Gordon, Ronald Gordon, Lawrence Calais, Gordan Chevalier, Brian Gordon, and Christopher Broussard. Honorary pallbearers will be Regonald Scruggs, Telly Gordon, Earl Chevalier, Sr., and Michael Jenkins. Pellerin Funeral Home of Arnaudville is in charge of arrangements.
