New Iberia - Funeral services for Charles ‘Spooky’ Duhe will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd in New Iberia, Louisiana. Duhe, 76, was a native of New Iberia, Louisiana and a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana.
Private interment will be at a later date.
A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 4:30 pm until 8:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm.
Charles Duhe was a man of diverse interests and an unquenchable curiosity that continued throughout his life. At various times, he was a farmer and a doctor, a conservative and a biker, a lover of music and art, including body art. He was a traveler through life, continuously collecting people, experiences and knowledge as he went.
Charles Duhe was a 1960 graduate of the Mercersburg Academy, a college preparatory boarding school, in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. He continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Louisiana State University in 1965. While at LSU, he was a member of their gymnastics team and a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
From 1965 to 1975, Duhe worked as a sugar cane farmer in Jeanerette, Louisiana. From 1967 to 1970, he served his country as a member of the Louisiana National Guard. From 1970 to 1975, he served on the local Farm Bureau.
In 1975, he left farming to found Superior Hydraulics in Lafayette. He headed the sales division of his company, excelling at creating and building relationships with his customers.
Not satisfied with business success, after retirement Duhe began another phase of his life, studying through his association with Dr. John Jester, a local doctor of Naturopathy. He earned his Doctor of Naturopathy from Yamuni Institute of Healing Art in 2000. In 2005, he was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy in Behavioral Medicine from the University of Science Arts and Technology.
The practice of natural medicine to help patients with healing and energy work may have been the most satisfying phase of Duhe’s life. His practice was known as ‘The Re-think Tank’ with the motto, ‘Making Life Work’.
During that time, he also became an avid motorcycle enthusiast, taking to the roads with his wife and friends, Pat Alleman and Alex Ozzrd-Low, to explore the roadways of the country. He was a member and active participant of HOGS, the Harley Owners Group.
Charles Duhe was preceded in death by his father, Charles Lambert Duhe and his mother, Gertie Dennison Duhe.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn L. Duhe; his daughter, Ashley Duhe Allain, her husband Raymond E. Allain, Jr. and their children, Lauren Catherine Allain and Emily Ruth Allain; his daughter Stacy Thornton White, her husband Thomas White and their children, Marinn White, Harrison White, Benjamin White, and Anderson White; his son, Max Bryan Thornton and his daughter Haleigh Thornton; and his brother, John Paulin Duhe II.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Acadiana Center for the Arts at 101 West Vermilion in Lafayette, Louisiana, 70501.
