Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Charles Webre, Jr., 92, who passed away on Friday, January 8, 2016, at Rosewood Retirement Center. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Monday, and continue on Tuesday at 8:00 am until 10:30 am. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Monday. Rev. Howard Blessing will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 1 in Breaux Bridge. Charles was an adorer at St. Bernard Catholic Church Perpetual Adoration Chapel and a member of The American Legion. Charles was one of the original Frogmen, serving in the Navy Combat Demolition Units, Assault Force U. He completed Advanced Mine School and was a qualified deep sea diver. He served in the American Theatre, the Asiatic Pacific, and received two stars for his service in Europe and Africa. Charles was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon for his service on D-Day. He enjoyed being on his farm and working with his horses. Charles loved visiting with his family and friends and helping people. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his son, Charles Michael Webre and wife Gayle; grandchildren, Jeremy Webre and spouse Gina, Jody Simon and spouse Taylor and Bryan Webre; great-grandchildren, Allison Webre and Lauren Webre; and sister, Marguerite McFarland. He was preceded in death by father, Charles Webre, Sr.; mother, Clementine Cormier Webre; former wife, Vergie Webre; brothers, Orrie M. Webre and Harold T. Webre; sisters, Irene Broussard, Juanita Bonin, Joyce Gunckel and Marie E. Patin. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Webre, Bryan Webre, Taylor Simon, Tim McFarland, Mark Greneaux and Joel McFarland. Honorary pallbearer will be Travis McFarland. The family would like to thank Alicia Ferney, Debbie Allemand, Stephanie Broussard, the staff at Rosewood Retirement Center and all who cared for him over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. Michael Center for Veterans, 425 St. John St., Lafayette, La 70501.
