"Charlie", as he was called by everyone, was a kind, gentle hearted, no nonsense man. Family was very important to him. As with most of us, Charlie was not a perfect man. He had his faults, but he was a man of great character. He was always willing to lend a hand to help family, friends and neighbors and expected nothing in return. He became the patriarch of the family at an early age and didn't take that responsibility lightly. He became his family's protector. We could always count on him. He loved his three children unconditionally and was very proud of the young men and woman they had become.
Charlie loved family gatherings. He enjoyed barbecuing and considered himself the master chef. Everyone knew if there was going to be a gathering at the Wiltz's Family house on Ledoux Street, Charlie was the designated person to do all the barbecuing. He took pride in saying he taught JR and Roderick the secret to good barbecuing.
Charlie also enjoyed dancing to zydeco music, going on trail rides and meeting up with his old buddies. He enjoyed fishing as much as he enjoyed eating them. He took pleasure in "hanging out" with his nephews and they looked up to him. He said he was teaching them "the ropes" so that one day they could take his place. Those boys loved their Uncle Charlie and looked forward to being with him because they knew they would have fun.
If love could have kept him here, he would still be here, for he was loved by everyone. But God knew best, he had suffered far too long. So, God took him Home, where there will be no more suffering. Rest in peace Charlie.
