Claudette Vallot Bonin, 81, longtime resident of St. Martinville, LA died peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 10, 2017.
Born in Cade, LA to Edward Claude and Nora LeBlanc Vallot, Claudette graduated from St. Martinville Sr. High in 1954 and received an associates degree in office administration from SLI. In November 1957, she married Joseph Sing Bonin of St. Martinville. After residing in Baton Rouge for several years, they returned to St. Martinville with their young family where they remained and became involved in many organizations in the area. She was retired from the Department of Children and Family Services for the State of Louisiana and was a member of the Retired State Employees Association. In her retirement, Claudette enjoyed traveling, playing Bridge, and working crossword puzzles.
Claudette was an active member of St. Martin de tours Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and as a founding member of the Eucharistic Adoration Ministry. She was active in the St. Martinville Garden Club, most recently serving as president. She was extremely proud of the groups efforts to have St. Martinville recognized as the States Cleanest City among cities of similar size.
As the wife of a Rotarian, Claudette was very involved in the clubs civic activities and enjoyed her role in staging the annual Rotary Mardi Gras Ball. She reigned gloriously as the Queen Mother of the Ball in 1994.
Those remaining to celebrate her life include her husband of 59 years, Joseph Sing Bonin, son Joseph Joey Bonin, Jr. and his wife Dolores of Roswell, GA; daughter Dr. Julie Meaux and her husband Mark of Conway, AK; son Edward Eddie Bonin and his husband Rene Fransen of New Orleans, LA; daughter Renee Chevallier and her husband Mark of Dallas, TX. Her life was enriched by her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Alexis Meaux Cooper and her husband Drew, their daughters Avery and Reagan; Joshua and Elysee Chevallier; Michelle and Jessica Bonin. She was especially beloved by her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
Welcoming her home are her parents, Nora and Claude, daughter Nicole Bonin, brothers Herman LeBlanc and Clifford Vallot, sisters Thelma Vallot Chris and Norma Vallot Pesson.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 8:30 am until 10:45 am on Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 10 am on Friday, by Fr. Ed Degeyter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am. Msgr. Keith Derouen will be celebrant of the Funeral Mass. Concelebrants will be Msgr. Douglass Courville and Fr. Ed Degeyter.
