Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Col. Clyde James Guidry, 64, who passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at his residence. Burial with full military honors, provided by the Louisiana National Guard, will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 - Mausoleum in Breaux Bridge . Father Neil McNeill will officiate at the Funeral Mass assisted by Deacon Marcel 'Butch' Hebert. Scriptures will be read by Audrey Thibodeaux and Jamie Guidry. Gift Bearers will be Brittany, Darian, and Kaitlyn Guidry. Col. Guidrys military career began at the age of 18 in the Louisiana National Guard. In the 1970s he taught Industrial Arts at Cecilia Senior High School . At the time of his death he was serving as the Post Commander for the Gillis Long Center and was also the Deputy Director of the Louisiana Military Department. Clyde loved spending time with his family on his boat and enjoyed water skiing, as well as snow skiing. An avid fan of L.S.U. football, he looked forward to watching each and every game. In his free time he enjoyed reading books related to history and heritage, listening to his immense collection of Swamp-Pop music, and he just recently took up golf. Even though he had a full-time job with the Louisiana National Guard, Clyde was also a Master Carpenter. He had a passion for woodworking and enjoyed working on all types of projects, no matter how large or small they were. The one project that he was most proud of was that of his own home, which he constructed himself. Clyde was always willing to lend his skills to help family and friends in need. Col. Guidry was a member of the Louisiana National Guard Officers Association and a past member of the City of Breaux Bridge Planning and Zoning Commission. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a brother and great friend to many, and a proud ;honored veteran of his country - he will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife, Deborah Potts Guidry of Carville, LA; two sons, Shane Jude Guidry and his wife, Sheree, of Parks, and Ryan Christopher Guidry of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Karen Guidry Dupont and her husband, Todd, of Parks, and Jamie Allison Guidry of Baton Rouge; his brother, Lloyd Guidry and his wife, Adele, of Cecilia; his sister, Christine Guidry Gatlin and her husband, Mike, of Baton Rouge; five grandchildren, Brittany, Darian, and Kaitlyn Guidry, and Dru and Ella Dupont; and his father and mother-in-law, Dalton and Vivian Potts, of Breaux Bridge. He was preceded on death by his mother, ; Inez Marie Melancon; his step- father, Aldus "Chic" Patin and his father, Claude Guidry.The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Monday and continue on Tuesday at 7 a .m. until 1 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Monday. Pallbearers will be Jeff Berard, Roy Poche, Pete Berard, Johnny Melancon, Dale Patin, and Jeremy Granger. Honorary pallbearers will be Wilson Thibodeaux, Kenneth Chauffe, Kenneth Delcambre, Glenn Melancon, Mike Gatlin, and members of the Louisiana National Guard.
