Corella Davis

St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 10, 2009, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Corella Davis, 98, who passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Houston Hospice in Houston, Texas. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in St. Martinville. Rev. Augustinus Seran, SVD, Pastor of Notre Dame Church, will conduct the services. Readers will be Tommy Portley and Nolan Davis. Corella was a member of the Notre Dame Catholic Church Ladies Auxillary. She enjoyed cooking, was superb at crocheting, loved family gatherings, visiting people at the nursing home while bringing them gifts. She was a very giving person and was known to many as "Mom". She was the last of her long lived siblings. All the sisters lived past there nineties and her brothers lived to their mid to late eighties, except for Carroll who died of an accidental death. Survivors include her sons, Larry Davis (Bernie) of Houston, TX, Leo Davis (Althea) of St. Martinville, LA, and Nolan Davis (Linda) of Port Arthur, TX; and her daughter, Doris Portley (Tommy) of Sugarland, TX; her 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Auguste and Felicie Berard Francois; her daughters, Lucille Fontenette, Irene Davis and Lee Ethel Williams; her son, Chester Davis; her brothers, Carroll, Claude and Alvin Francois; and her sisters, Verna Roberts, Pearl Lilly, Bertha Preston and Fabiola Ebow. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 7:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2009. A rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Pallbearers will be Nolan Davis, Jr., Leo Davis, Jr., Eddie Fontenette, Bruce Davis, Lance Davis, Barry Davis and Carlton Davis. Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
