New Iberia - Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, ?October 31, 2006, at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia ?for Dr. Cornelius Paul Voorhies, Jr., 74, who died on Sunday, October 29, 2006, ?at his residence in New Iberia.
Interment will be in Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia.
Fr. Charles E. Langlois, pastor of St. Peter's Catholic Church will conduct the service.
Dr. Voorhies was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Perpetual Adoration Group, SPC/CHS Alumi Association.
""Connie"" was very committed to his family and community. He was a 1951 graduate of St. Peter's College where he learned love of God and his Catholic faith. He was quarterback of its football team ?and ?played American Legion baseball. He earned his dental degree at Loyola University in New Orleans and joined the U.S Army Dental Corps and was stationed at Fort Polk. ?Returning to his hometown he practiced dentistry for 48 years. He coached Evangeline Little League baseball for many years and was member of the Optimist and Kiwanis Club. Connie loved country and western music -- listening, singing, and playing it. Connie's hobby was his family. He loved family events, gatherings, holiday dinners, barbecuing, and getting together with friends. ?He loved his camp and piddling with its upkeep. But most of all he loved his wife, June.
Survivors include his wife, June LeBlanc Voorhies of New Iberia; his sons, Cornelius P. Voorhies, III of Houston, TX., and Drew Bonvillain of New Iberia; his daughters, Stacie B. Copell of New Iberia, Jean V. Boudreaux and her husband, Kim of Houston, TX., and Edie Bonvillain of New Iberia; his brother, Dr. Donald Voorhies of New Iberia; his sister, Diane V. Plaisance; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by mother, Odette D. Voorhies; his father, Cornelius P. Voorhies, Sr.; his son, Jerry Voorhies; his brother, Alfred Voorhies; and a granddaughter, Bridget Copell.
The family requests that visitation be held from 4:00 p.m. ~ 9 p.m. on Monday, October 30, 2006 and continue at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, until time of service.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 30, 2006
Pallbearers will be Dr. Donald Voorhies, Drew Bonvillain, Rhett Bonvillain, James Mestayer, John Plaisance and Steven Minvielle
Honorary Pall bearers are Dr. Burt Bujard, Dr. Mike Halphen, Jimmy Schwing, Leon Minivielle, Jr., Leon Minivielle III, Nelson Myers, Calvin Davis, Mike Smith, Ray Escurieux, Elbridge ""Smitty"" Smith, Dr. Eddie Lamperez, Kim Boudreaux and Dr. Lawrence Guilbeau.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Ste. 200, Lafayette, LA 70503, and Catholic High School Endowment.
