Coteau - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 24, 2019, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Coteau, for Curtis P. Melancon, 81, who passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Entombment will follow in the church cemetery.
Rev. Brian Harrington will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Wednesday, and will continue on Thursday from 9:00 am until 12:15 pm.
A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm on Wednesday.
A lifelong resident of Coteau, Curtis Paul Melancon was born on January 25, 1937 to the late Saintne and Lena Romero Melancon. He attended New Iberia High School, and worked as a Deliveryman for Pelican Creamery for 26 years before retiring from Interstate Battery. Mr. Melancon used to raise rabbits and racehorses; his favorite horse was Collectable Rose. He loved watching Saints Football, drinking his morning coffee with his furry friend, Peanut, and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed.
Mr. Melancon is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ethel Romero Melancon; children, Debra (Teddy) Touchet, David (Suszy) Melancon, Sandra (Errol) Viator, and Vanessa (Todd) Domingue, all of Coteau; a sister, Jeanette Turner of Coteau; grandchildren, Dawn (Nick) Derouen, Danielle (Doug) Boutte, Taylor (Shawn Arceneaux) Touchet, Blake (Brad Prioux) Melancon, Brooke (Joshua) Gibson, Cole (Shaina Guidry) Viator, Alexis Domingue, Madilyn Domingue, and Colton Domingue; and great-grandchildren, Bryce, Braxton, Shay, Kaden, Kason, Brandon, Drake, Emma, Jordyn, Parker, Kennedi, Marley, Kingston, and Brock.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Altha Romero; and his in-laws, Alexis and Eunice Romero.
Pallbearers will be Todd Domingue, Cole Viator, Blake Melancon, Colton Domingue, Bryce Derouen, and Richard Arceneaux.
Honorary pallbearers are Nick Derouen, Doug Boutte, Joshua Gibson, Brad Prioux, Braxton Derouen, Kaden Boutte, Brock Trahan, and Brandon Arceneaux.
