Cynthia grew up in Morrow, Louisiana and graduated from Morrow High School. She attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches and T.H. Harris Vocational School in Opelousas. Her career began at the well-known Stelly's Restaurant in LeBeau, Louisiana. Soon after, she became the morning radio personality for KSLO radio station in Opelousas. For the remainder of her career, she worked with various companies in the accounting department. Cynthia married the love of her life, Melvin "Red" Babin from Plaquemine, Louisiana, and they lived in the area until their retirement when they moved to Cecilia. Cynthia and Red were married for 50 years. Her hobbies included traveling, reading, sewing, and tailgating for the LSU Tiger football team. Cynthia loved working with the Special Olympics, where she assisted with fundraising and delighted in being the "hugger" at the end of each competition. Cynthia was liked by everyone she met. She had a welcoming, friendly, easy going spirit and people were instantly attracted to her. Her love was obvious in the care and concern she displayed for her family, friends, and others she barely knew. No matter what challenges she faced she always maintained a positive, upbeat attitude. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life; they brought her immeasurable joy and she cherished every moment she shared with them. Cynthia will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity, compassion, and humor.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin "Red" Babin; son, Brady Babin; daughter, Danielle Babin; siblings, Darrell Francois (Catherine), Carolyn "Sue" Carter (Dennis), Karen Russell (Kevin), John "Johnny" Francois and Lisa Leger; grandchildren, Alex Bourgoyne, Addie Bourgoyne, Auston Bourgoyne and Chloe Bourgeois; and several nieces and nephews.
