Breaux Bridge - A private funeral service will be held for Cynthia Marie "Sis" Guidry, 67, who passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Fr. Garrett McIntyre will officiate at the Funeral Service. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Cynthia, known to everyone as "Sis", was born on January 17, 1953. She was a "special" child of God, who was showered with immense love from her parents and her family throughout her life. Although she could not speak, nor hear, she was known to be quite the "mind-reader". She loved keeping her hands busy by coloring, playing games on her tablet, and most recently, her Nintendo Switch, which she was ecstatic to receive. She especially loved rocking in her chair, creating hooked rugs, and crocheting blankets for anyone who requested one; she was most excited when she was able to crochet a baby blanket - she loved babies and her baby dolls.
Sis was one of the first clients to attend the ARC in St. Martinville, and did so until November of 2017, when her health declined. She loved her ARC family and they genuinely returned that love back to her. Her most exciting moments in her life was being able to meet Louisiana natives, Ali Landry - Miss U.S.A. and Jake Delhomme - Quarterback of the Carolina Panthers - she LOVED them both and proudly displayed her pictures with them in her home.
Her child-like spirit has touched so many lives in her 67 years with us and we will all miss her dearly.
She is survived by her brother, Michel "Mike" Guidry and his wife, Jenny "Tee" of Parks; sister, Deborah "Debbie" Guidry-Gauthier of Breaux Bridge; nephews, Justin Guidry of Parks and Jacob P. Gauthier of Breaux Bridge; niece, Michele G. Frederick and her husband, Doug, of Parks; great nephew, Alec Frederick; great nieces, Anna and Avri Frederick; and her aunt, Faye G. Hebert.
She is also survived by longtime family friends, who were considered family and were very near and dear to her, Bobby and Myrna Melancon Ayo, of Breaux Bridge, and their children, Jon Ayo and his wife, Markell, and their children, Chloe and Caroline, of Breaux Bridge, and Dr. Ashley Ayo-Guy and her husband, Justin, of Lafayette, and their children, Jax, Eli, and Jay.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl A. and Lillian Pontiff Guidry; paternal grandparents, Andre and Gussie Broussard Guidry; maternal grandparents, Ovide and Armine Guidry Pontiff; and her loving caregivers of many years, Patricia "Pat" Albert and Margaret R. Anthony.
Pallbearers will be Mike Guidry, Justin Guidry, Jacob P. Gauthier, Doug Frederick, Jonathan Ayo, and Ronnie Calais.
Honorary pallbearers will be Alec Frederick, Bobby Ayo, and Perry Calais.
Her family would like to thank the ARC of St. Martinville for giving Sis something to look forward to five days a week for so many years - she loved going to school. To all of her devoted caregivers who attended to her needs over the past 25 years, most especially, her sister-in-law, Jenny, her Aunt Faye, and Dominique, Jennifer, Ashley, Phyllis, and Cynthia, you were all a Godsend to us and you will forever remain in our hearts. And a very special thank you to Paul Carter and staff of Medical Advantage, Dr. Warren Degatur and his staff, the staff of Lafayette General - 5th floor, especially Heidi Robin Delcambre, R.N., who was with her until her last breath, Keyante, L.P.N., Carla, R.N., and Angel, L.P.N., your compassionate care and attention given to her during her time of need, especially when we could not be there, means more to us than you'll ever know.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Bernard School Foundation, 251 E. Bridge St., Breaux Bridge, LA 70517.
