Cecilia - A Mass of Christian Burial was held 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia, for Daisy "Pat" Guidry Sells, who passed away on Monday, May 25, 2009, her 97th Birthday, at St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge.
Interment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia.
"Pat", as she was affectionately known to her family and friends, was born on May 25, 1912 and was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia, a member of the Ladies Altar Society, the Cattlemen's Association, Widows of the Teche, and Farm Bureau Insurance.
She was an excellent cook and it gave her great joy entertaining and preparing meals for her family and friends. Pat always looked forward to her "cousins' reunion" - she was the life-of-the-party, always so very young at heart, and full of life and energy, even at her young age of 97. She loved playing cards and going dancing, and would do so every chance she could. Pat enjoyed traveling and meeting people; she never met a stranger and once she met them, they were friends for life.
Pat was a beautiful woman, both inside and out, whose smile would light up a room. She will be sadly missed by her loving family, her nearest and dearest of friends, and throughout the quaint community of Cecilia, her hometown.
Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Sells Ray of Cecilia, LA; her two grandchildren, Tara Ray and Stephanie Ray; her step grandson, Robert Ray, Jr; one step great grandson, Christian Ray and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Treville and Bertha Guidry; her husband, James Sells; 11 brothers and sisters, Henry Guidry, Artemise Zeringue, Inez Angelle, Daniel Guidry, William Guidry, Dewey Guidry, Marie Louise Burney, Edwin "Mulate" Guidry, Claude T. Guidry and Francis Guidry.
Pallbearers were Dr. Douglas Guidry, Dr. Jeffery Guidry, Lloyd Guidry, Timothy Moore, Reginald Bezet, Robert Ray, Jr., Aldes Lasseigne and Walter Angelle.
Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Broussard, Dr. Jim Guidry and D.J. Guidry.
