New Iberia - Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, September 21, 2018, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for Dallas Joseph Derouen, 90, who passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, in New Iberia.
Interment will be private.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate.
A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 9:00 am until 11:30 am. A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 10:30 am Friday.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Derouen was born on March 25, 1928 to the late Alcide and Marie Vincent Derouen. He proudly served our country in the National Guard and then in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Derouen was employed with the Daily Iberian for 40 years and he also worked as a window glazer. He was a very simple, hard working man who loved his family dearly. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Kathryn Plaisance Derouen of New Iberia; daughter, Bonnie Jean Boyer and husband Stephen of New Iberia; sister, Doris Derouen Vice of New Iberia; grandson, Stephen R. Boyer, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Highlands Ranch, CO; great grandchildren, Sarah L. Boyer, Madeleine E. Boyer, Eloise A. Boyer, and PFC Chase M. Boyer USMC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roy J. Derouen; sister-in-law, Ethel Derouen; brother-in-law, Loveless Vice; mother-in-law, Mildred C. Thornton; and father-in-law, William E. Thornton.
Pallbearers will be Stephen R. Boyer, Stephen R. Boyer Jr., PFC Chase M. Boyer, Ryan Vice, Timothy Vice and Joseph Lewis.
The family would like to give special thanks to Mr. Derouen’s caregivers Serant Tauriac, Brenda Fine, Debbie Fremin, Tina Derise, Victoria Harris, and to the staff of Hope Hospice for their care and compassion, and also to Mr. Joseph Lewis for his support over the past several years.
