St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Notre Dame Catholic Church for Dalton Joseph Benjamin, 76, who passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, at Calcutta House (Hospice of Acadiana) in Lafayette.
A visitation will take place at Notre Dame Catholic Church on Saturday from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM on Saturday.
Rev. Abelardo Gabriel will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Dametra Taylor, Lamonica Richard, and Kiley Murphy. Gift Bearers will be Ashlyn Benjamin, Kendall Robertson, and Briana James.
Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Mausoleum.
Dalton, affectionately known to many as "Pooloo", honorably served his country in the United States Army. Dalton was an owner/operator in the trucking industry for 35 plus years. He was interested in classic cars, motorcycles, and enjoyed dancing. Dalton also cherished family gatherings and spending time with his brothers, who were his best friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Sonja Narcisse Benjamin; daughters, Tonia Williams, Elke Benjamin, and Sharniece Comeaux; step-daughters, Briana James and MacKenzie James; grandchildren, Ashlyn Benjamin, Kendall Robertson, Kingston Robertson, Jailyn Roberts, JaMya Wilkins, Jordan Robertson, Jayden Bailey, and MaKensie James; great-grandchildren, Avery Spencer, Amir Spencer, Ahryan Jackson and Dewayne Kendrick; grand-dog, November Comeaux; brothers, Eugene Benjamin (Mable), Donald Benjamin (Crystal Bell), Ronald Benjamin (Sarah), Alton Benjamin and Raymond Benjamin (Charlene); and his sisters, Barbara Martin (Clarence), Shirley Thibodeaux, Brenda Jones (Floyd), and Carolyn McCain (James).
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Captolia Narcisse Benjamin; daughter, Sonia Benjamin; and his sister, Gail Benjamin.
Pallbearers will be Kendall Robertson, Kingston Robertson, Jordan Robertson, Roderick Benjamin, Jayden Bailey, Percy Joseph, Jr., Shannon Thibodeaux, and Eugene Benjamin, Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Patrick Benjamin, John Zigler Joseph, Donald Savoie Jr., Jonathan Narcisse Sr, Calvin Labbe Sr, Joseph Kenray Narcisse, Le Derrick Hunter, Jonathan Baylor, Joseph Minor Narcisse, Eugene Benjamin, Sr., Donald Benjamin, Floyd Jones, and Erinton Savoie.
