Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, April 3, 2017, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for Daniel Richard, 85, who passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at his residence. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 10:30 am until 10:00 pm on Sunday, and continue on Monday at 7:00 am until 9:30 am. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Sunday. Rev. Gary Schexnayder will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial and Rev. Cedric Sonnier will be con-celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. A native of Leonville, LA Daniel left home in 1952 to serve his country overseas in the U.S. Army. After serving, he came home to work the dredge boats and other small jobs before starting as a land surveyor. Daniel retired from John E. Chance & Associates 31 years later. Daniel enjoyed his retirement by creating items out of any material he could find to the enjoyment of his children and grandchildren. He kept the Cajun Heritage alive through his love for Cajun Music and by playing the accordion. He was truly loved by many and his loss is deeply felt by everyone. He is survived by his loving spouse, Stella Mae Breaux Richard of Breaux Bridge; sons, Darrell J. Richard and wife Rochelle of Opelousas, Justin Mark Richard and wife Kathy of Porter, TX, Kenneth Richard and wife Rachel of Cankton; daughters, Brenda and her husband Norbert Tony Krieg II of Youngsville, Jolene Richard and significant other, Larry Sisk of Lafayette, Nita Frederick and husband Randy of Cecilia, Jennifer Sonnier and husband Chad of Cankton; 21grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Ferrier Richard, mother, Julia Lagrange Richard, brothers, Hilton Richard, Raymond Richard, Howard Richard, Irvin "Thib" Richard, Joseph "Avie" Richard, Milton Richard; and his sisters, Artimese Lalonde, Clemence R. Alleman, Lena R. Boudreaux and Barbara Richard. Pallbearers will be Darrell Ryan Richard, Justin Mark Richard, Jr., Chad Anthony Sonnier, Jordan Michael Richard, Nicholas Paul Broussard and James Francis Broussard. Honor Guards will be Mathew Paul Latiolais, Lance Jude Frederick and Jacob Adam Baker. Donations can be made to Hospice of Acadiana in Daniel Richards name.
