New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Darrel Bourgeois, 80, who passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, with Military Honors by the Iberia Honor Guard.
Rev. Bill Melancon will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm Friday. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8:00 am until 10:30 am.
A longtime resident of New Iberia, Darrel Bourgeois was a loving, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather. He was born on October 21, 1936 to the late Calice and Elina Romero Bourgeois, and he proudly served our country in the National Guard. Mr. Bourgeois enjoyed working in his garden, fishing at the camp, and making many crafts out of wood. After retirement from the salt mine on Avery Island, being the active man that he was, he began working at Hoh-Pak Lab, where everyone loved him. Mr. Bourgeois took care of the love of his life, Helen Olivier Bourgeois, until the day that she passed and now they are together again and forever will be.
Survivors include his son, Patrick D. Bourgeois, Sr. and wife Eva of New Iberia; daughters, Juanita B. Verret and husband David of Jeanerette, Eve M. Dworaczyk and husband Sedric of New Iberia; grandchildren, Shawn Rollins, Ernie Rollins, Emily Maturin, Chad Touchet, Jamie Touchet, Christopher Leleux, Sr., Victor Goodman, Axel Dworaczyk, Patrick D. Bourgeois, Jr., Kristi N. Bourgeois; 20 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Helen Olivier Bourgeois, daughter, Carolyn M. Folkerth, parents, Calice and Elina Romero Bourgeois, brothers, Milton Bourgeois, and Melvin Bourgeois.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Leleux Sr., Patrick Bourgeois Jr., Sedric Dworaczyk, Patrick Bourgeois Sr., David Verret, and Melvin Bourgeois.
Honorary pallbearers include Christopher "t-boo" Leleux Jr., Axel Dworaczyk, and Kayden Louis Duhon.
