Darrel Gros

New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 8, 2011 at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia , for Darrel J. Gros, 58 who died Tuesday, September 06, 2011 in Lafayette . Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery . Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant. Born on June 3, 1953 in New Iberia , Darrel was a 1971 graduate of New Iberia Senior High School , and attended McNeese University , where he played college football. He was a 31 year law enforcement veteran, having worked for the New Iberia Police Dept, Iberia Parish Sheriff's Dept, and then retiring from the Louisiana State Police after 25 years of service. Darrel enjoyed all sports, however golf was his favorite. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Susan Collins Gros of New Iberia; father, Dudley Gros of New Iberia; sons, Jonathan Gros and wife Jessica of New Iberia, Matthew Gros and fianc, Megan Troha of New Iberia; brother, Woody Gros of New Iberia; sisters, Janell Hays and husband Darrell of New Iberia, Denise McClure and husband Lee of New Iberia. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jolen Barrilleaux Gros; grandparents, George and Lula Gros, Elwood and Marie Barrilleaux; brother, Wesley Gros; and a nephew Braiden James Bourque. A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd , in New Iberia . A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Wednesday.
