Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for Darrell James Gabriel, 61, who passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm on Friday, and continue Saturday at 7:00 am until 10:00 am. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Friday. Rev. Joseph Campion will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge. Darrell J. Gabriel, better known as "Hos", "Brother", was born in Lafayette, LA to the late Cleveland Matthews and Geneva Gabriel. He graduated in 1975 from Breaux Bridge High School, served our country in the National Guard, and was a construction worker for over 20 years in the St. Martinville area. Hos loved his family, enjoyed rocking his nieces and nephews and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. Darrell enjoyed listening to Country music and he loved the New Orleans Saints and talking about football. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his brothers, Harrison Gabriel and wife Mercella, Cleveland Gabriel; sisters, Rebecca Wiltz, Annie Jean Matthew, Jeanita Roberts, Jeanette Matthews and husband Clifton Lee; 11 nephews; and 14 nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Cleveland Matthews; and his mother, Geneva Gabriel.
