David Arvine Buck

January 10, 1943 — October 18, 2020

Breaux Bridge - A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Sunday, October 25, 2020, at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge for David Arvine Buck, 77, who passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm on Saturday and continue on Sunday at 7:00 am until 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette. Once honorably discharged from the National Guard, he found himself in New Orleans. He then moved to Lafayette and in 1976 started his first oilfield service company, Superior Manufacturing and Hydraulics. In 1992 he started a real estate investment company, Cypress Meadow Properties. Over the years, he invested in multiple residential and commercial properties from Louisiana to the Florida panhandle. Many entities were born out of Superior and Cypress Meadow Properties including a brief ownership of the Louisiana IceGators hockey team, Lagniappe Antiques, M&M Oil Tools, Global Die Technology, Enso Fitness, Buck & Johnny’s, and The Clock Shop, which was his pride and joy. His love for Breaux Bridge shined bright and everyone in town knew it. He loved this community and gave back in numerous ways, including serving on the Planning and Zoning committee for the City of Breaux Bridge and providing for others through various charities. Throughout his life, David was granted over 30 patents for his inventions. Additionally, he received multiple honors for his charitable giving. These awards include: Philanthropy Award, Citizen of the Year, 3 Meritorious Awards for Engineering Innovation, and many more. He had a deep love and respect for the military and first responders. His favorite day of the year was Thanksgiving because he was thankful for everything he had and loved giving back. He was the architect of a tradition which now serves over 1000 meals every Thanksgiving to those who may not otherwise have a meal. He dedicated his life to his family and his community. He invested in people and their potential to succeed, and for that his legacy lives on in everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Buck of Grand Coteau, LA; three daughters, Heather Buck Indest of Breaux Bridge, Jan Leger of Houston, TX, and Belinda Singletary of Bush, LA; three sons, Bryan Leger of Katy, TX, Dave Dwayne Buck of Butte LaRose, and Christopher Buck of Lafayette; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and two sisters, Deanna Garrett and Phyllis Pitre, both of Jamestown, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Glenn Claiborne Buck; and his brother, Larry Buck. His family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Brierre, Dr. Vincent, and Dr. Rodriguez, along with the staff of Our Lady of Lourdes, Grace Hospice, A Care Partner nurses, Marilyn, Shonda, and Amber, and his “assistants”, Becky, Salena, and Rosalind, for the wonderful care provided to him during his time of need. In lieu of flowers, a donation to one of the following organizations would be much appreciated: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, M.D. Anderson, the St. Martin Parish Council on Aging, or any Military foundation. Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge, 211 Berard St., Breaux Bridge, LA 70517, (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
