Throughout his life, David wore many hats with grace and diligence. He began his professional journey as the owner and operator of St. Martin Construction, where his hard work and passion shone through in every project he undertook. He later transitioned into a role at the City of St. Martinville, serving as a data and inventory clerk for 31 years before his well-deserved retirement.
Those who knew David best often described him as a gentle giant - a man whose kindness knew no bounds. His love for his family was evident to all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. Whether through his infectious smile or comforting presence, David made sure that those around him felt cherished and valued.
In his leisure time, David found solace in various hobbies that brought him joy and fulfillment. Lasting memories were created with a round of golf on the course. An avid fisherman, better when shared with his brother, Keith "Bug Eye" deLaunay, and hunter, he possessed a deep appreciation for the great outdoors and all its wonders. Additionally, his skills in the kitchen were second to none; David's culinary creations never failed to impress those lucky enough to savor them.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Fern Patin deLaunay; children, Denise deLaunay (Craig) Frederick and David James (Angel) deLaunay, Jr.; sisters, Susan deLaunay and Yvonne deLaunay; brothers, Gerald (Michelle) deLaunay and Robert "Bobby" deLaunay; grandchildren, Quinn (Paige) Frederick, Lauren (Matt) Berard, Sage (Ashleigh) deLaunay and Grant (Samantha) deLaunay; and his great grandchildren, Adelynn, Avery, Reid, Lillian, Ella and Ember.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Mae H. deLaunay; and his brothers, William H. deLaunay, Jr. and Bernard "Keith" deLaunay.
