Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m., on Friday, February 12, 2010, at St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for David Paul Guidry, 89, who passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at his residence.
Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Fr. Paul LaFleur will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Fred and Mel Guidry. The Gift Bearers will be Katherine Guidry and Cabrina Guidry.
Mr. Guidry was a veteran of World War II having honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was retired with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development after many years of dedicated service.
A devout Catholic, David was a parishioner of St. Bernard Roman Catholic Church where he served as an Usher and was a member of the Holy Name Society for over 50 years, and was also a dedicated Adorer in the St. Bernard Chapel of Perpetual Adoration, since its inception. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Guidry enjoyed doing carpentry work, cooking, and spending time visiting with his family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Emelianne Usie Guidry, of Breaux Bridge; three sons, Roger Guidry, of Breaux Bridge, Alfred Fred Guidry and his wife, Katherine, of Breaux Bridge, and Melvin Stretch Guidry and his wife, Cabrina, of Cecilia; three sisters, Marie G. LeBlanc, of Henderson, Innocent G. Huval, and Fabiola G. Toot Huval, both of Breaux Bridge; three grandchildren, Gavin David Guidry and his wife, Aya, Rainey Elaine Guidry, and Trace David Guidry; and one great grandchild, Chase Guidry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Azelie Theriot Guidry; five brothers, Simeon, Philozie, Lucien, Maurice, and Ovey Guidry; and two sisters, Felonise G. Boyer and Enola G. LeBlanc.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Friday. ;
A Rosary will be recited at 12 Noon by Deacon Marcel "Butch" Hebert.
Pall Bearers will be Roger Guidry, Fred Guidry, Mel Guidry, Thomas Guidry, Ernest Guidry, and Wayne Sonnier.
Honorary Pall Bearers will be Gavin Guidry and Trace Guidry.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Jeanne Theriot and to Hospice of Acadiana, for their constant care and concern during his brief illness.
