David John Lavergne

St. Martinville - A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville for David John Lavergne, 63, who passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Pointe Coupee General Hospital. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 8:30 am until 10:30 am on Saturday. A rosary will be prayed at 9:00 am on Saturday. Rev. Rusty P. Richard will officiate at the Funeral Service. The readers will be Leslie Segura and Emily Broussard. Gift Bearers will be James Broussard Jr. and Evan Broussard. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville. David earned a Bachelors degree in horticulture from USL in 1976 and his Masters degree from LSU in horticulture in 1978. He briefly worked for the Extension service after graduating from LSU. He worked a year or two afterwards in old field services industry. David retired from the State of Louisiana after working for 20-plus years. As a pastime, David enjoyed gardening, especially experimenting with growing various varieties of fruit trees, and attending horticultural seminars. He is survived by his brother, Ivan Lavergne of St. Martinville; his sisters, Janice Broussard and husband James of St. Martinville, Dianne Kelly and husband Robert of Chugiak, AK, and Marcia Van Brocklin and husband Kerry of New Iberia; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and his close friend, Diane Wildey of Jarreau. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan Lavergne Sr. and Ella Boudreaux Lavergne; and two brothers, Melvin Lavergne and Mark Lavergne.
