David Michael Savoy

Saint Martinville - A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 pm, on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville, for David Michael Savoy, 63, who departed this life on Friday, March 4, 2016, after a lengthy illness. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7:00 am until 11:30 am on Thursday. A rosary will be prayed at 11:30 am on Thursday by his brother Ronald Savoy. Official readings will be read by Renee Savoy immediately following the rosary. David M. Savoy was born on December 17, 1952 to the late Carmen K. Savoy and Walter Savoy, Sr. David the 5th of 12 children was baptized in Notre Dame Catholic Church and attended and served as an altar boy regularly. He attended Adam Carlson High School graduation in 1971. David joined the Army in 1972. During basic training at Folk Polk, LA he received a certificate of achievement at Fort Knox, Kentucky for Outstanding Soldier. He finished his army career stationed in Nuremberg, Germany in 1975, receiving an honorable discharge. Shortly after he moved to Baltimore, MD, there he was employed at the Social Security Office. David moved back to St. Martinville to help his mother and father and started working offshore. David was employed by several offshore companies, retiring from Hess Corporation as a Senior Operator after 32 years of employment. David was married to Ismay Robertson Savoy for 33 years and with this union they had two children, Andre' Michael Savoy and Candice Alisha Savoy. David's family and friends affectionately remember him as Michael, Uncle Mike, and "GOD" Good Ole Dad. He liked to challenge himself in all he did. He enjoyed riding his bike and his Harley. He enjoyed playing golf, chess, and building and re-building his favorite green race truck. He also took pride in being an "extra" in the movie The Rough, starring Taraji P. Henson and being able to "name that tune" in one or two notes from old school music. David was an avid reader and his favorite author was Clive Cussler. He loved coming home and spending time with his children, working around his home and his garden. He was a diehard Cowboy fan win or lose. David leaves to cherish his memories his loving spouse of 33 years, Ismay Robertson Savoy; son, Andre Savoy and wife Nadera; daughter, Candice A. Savoy; grandchildren, Ava Marie Savoy and Chase Johnson; sisters, Phyllis Jacquet and husband Aaron, Carmen Hamilton and husband Roger, Renee Savoy, Kasandra Benjamin and husband John, Millicent Guillory and husband Tommy; brothers, Rodney Savoy and wife Cheryl, Ronald Savoy and wife Martha, Christopher Savoy and wife Tessa, Brian Savoy, and Keith Savoy and wife Vanessa. He was preceded in death by father, Walter Savoy, Sr.; mother, Carmen Kerlegan Savoy, and brother, Walter Savoy, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Andre Savoy, Carl George, Clarence "Scoby" Jones, Keith Savoy, Roger Hamilton, Jr., and Christopher Savoy. Our family wishes to express a special thank you to Mr. Clarence "Scoby" Jones, Mrs. Tessa Savoy, Mr. Carl George, Mr. Anthony Davis, Mr. Romell Charles, and NSI Hospice Nursing Specialties for their excellent care and compassion.
