New Iberia - A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia for David Scott Meche, 48, who passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020, in New Iberia. Interment will be at a later date.
A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 3:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Tuesday. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 am until 10:00 am.
Due to Covid-19, the family requests that family and friends wear face masks and practice social distancing while attending the visitation and funeral service.
A native and lifelong resident of Lydia and New Iberia, David was born January 20, 1972. He attended New Iberia Senior High and was employed with Hi-Tech Tubular as a pipe inspector. David was an avid golfer and had just won the first flight in Gator Golf. He had a very competitive nature and never gave up. He also enjoyed fishing, softball, and shooting pool with his wife and friends in a league. David loved to talk and never met a stranger.
David’s family was everything to him. He loved spending time with them, especially playing with the grandbabies and enjoying movie weekends with his baby girl. David had the biggest heart and the most handsome smile. He was loved and will be deeply missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Nikki Meche of New Iberia, LA; two daughters, Davi Meche Vincent (Lance) of Youngsville, and Brandi Prejean Migues (Bryce) of New Iberia; son, Cole Prejean (companion Kori) of Coteau; four grandchildren, Reece Vincent, Sawyer Vincent, Baby E Vincent, and Beckham Prejean; father, Carl Meche of Charenton; mother, Barbara Legge of Lydia; grandmother, Joyce Meche of Lydia; brother, Ryan Meche (Tyra) of Lydia; sister, Taylor Meche of New Iberia; five nephews, Josh Meche, Kaine Meche, Miles Meche, Jacob Williams, and Caleb Williams; two nieces, McKenzie Meche, and Madison Williams; brother-in-law, Jason Williams (Shawnee); mother-in-law, Cindy "Memaw" Williams; and his extended Meche & Ortega families.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Diego and Amelia Ortega, Leeward Meche, Freda Guillot; step dad, Ned Legge, father-in-law, Bobby Williams; uncle, Blaine Meche; and a cousin, Detta Leap.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lance Vincent, Cole Prejean, Bryce Migues, Josh Meche, Jed Meche, Dylan Meche, Kyle Meche, Jeremy Boudreaux, Kevin Romero, Heath Boudreaux, Preston Hull, Cory Bonin, Jory Bonin, Walter Derouen, Eric Landry, Ryan Meche, David Lasseigne, Richie Howard, Keith Blair, Jason “Boo” Simon, Jason Williams, Chris Meche, Reggie Thibodeaux, Brian Suire, Jude Elliot, and the entire staff of Hi-Tech Tubular.
