Cankton - David Newland Varnado, 77, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2019, in his home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the home of Gretchen Guidry Payne in Sunset. A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until time of service.
David was born in Jackson, MS to the late Louis and Mary Wilson Varnado. He was a devoted and loving husband, brother, grandfather, and friend. His life-long business was in Marketing and Sales. David was a faithful member of Victory Life Christian Center in Church Point. He was competitive in everything he did. He played basketball all of the years of his education. He was All American Basketball Player Beloit College. He continued to play for the Army after he enlisted. He loved his dogs and his horses. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren. His love of horses came from a very young age and as he got older, he began to train and show Quarter Horses. Dave will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving spouse of 25 years, Lona Boudreaux Varnado; sons, David Varnado, Jr. and James Varnado and wife Jessica; daughters, Cheryl McKeel and husband Kevin and Julie Varnado; stepchildren, Grant Guidry and Gretchen Guidry Payne and spouse Rob; brother, James Varnado and wife Carol; grandchildren, Lauren Cormier, AJ Manuel, Sage, Hope, and Story McKeel, Kaitlyn and Aiden Varnado, and Whit and Sam Payne.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Varnado; mother, Mary Edith Wilson Varnado; sister Mary Lou Varnado; and his grandchild, Willow McKeel.
