A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, 6 September 2008 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge to celebrate the life of Deborah Roy Morvant, 59, who died peacefully in her sleep on 28 August 2008. Interment of her ashes will take place at a later date. Deborah was a 1967 graduate of Our Lady of Mercy High School in St. Martinville and attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana.
She married Air Force Lieutenant Dane Morvant in May of 1969 and embarked on a 20-year journey during which they lived at 17 different addresses in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Heidelberg Germany, and Nevada. Along the way, daughter Kelly was born in Mesa, AZ in 1971 and Amy was born in San Antonio in 1974.
Deb, Dane, and the girls enjoyed their frequent changes of assignment and liked to recall that their three-year tour in Heidelberg, Germany was the highlight of their 20 years in the Air Force. While in Germany, Deborah started working as a salesperson for a company specializing in oriental rugs, and within a short time was the sales manager and principal purchasing agent. In 1984 and 1985 she also single-handedly opened new outlets for the same company at four locations in the United Kingdom.
Returning to the United States, she graduated with an honors degree in fashion merchandising from South Plains College in Levelland, TX, after which she worked as a fashion consultant in Lubbock, TX.
Deborah was deeply religious and happily shared her faith with family and friends. She took great pride in her daughters and granddaughters, and only five days before her death watched her granddaughter, Morgan, capture the crown in the Miss Breaux Bridge Pageant.
Until recently, Deborah enjoyed walking throughout her neighborhood, usually logging five to eight miles per day, often at a pace beyond the capabilities of her husband.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Estelle Ronsonet Roy, her brother Lawrence, and numerous aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her husband Dane; daughters Kelly Mouton (Albert) and Amy Morvant; granddaughters Morgan, Caroline, Hannah, and Falon; and sisters Marilyn Fournet, Sherril Fournet, Julaine Gray (Peter), Marjorie Katsantones (Tom), Gretchen Breckenridge, Karlyss Sullivan, Laurel Bullock, and Harriet Ochse (Henry).
