Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in Breaux Bridge, for Denis Macon Champagne, 83, who passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Lafayette General Medical Center.
Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Mausoleum No. 2 in Breaux Bridge.
Fr. Louis Allen Breaux, Associate Pastor of St. Bernard Catholic Church will conduct the funeral service.
Mr. Champagne was a veteran of World War II, having honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was a superintendent with the Department of Transportation and Development in St. Mary Parish for over 22 years. Denis and ;Rita would have celebrated 28 wonderful years of marriage on August 5th.
Survivors include his wife, Rita A. Champagne, of Breaux Bridge; one son, William "Bill" Champagne, of Franklin; two daughters, Sherry Scrantz and her husband, Leonard, and Hollie Ketelers and her husband, Stewart, Jr., all of Breaux Bridge; one sister, Laura Maddox and her husband, L. D., of Texas; six grandchildren, Inga Sandifer, Brandy Quebedeaux, Courtney LeBlanc, Edward Champagne, Perileigh Champagne, and Macon Champagne; and eight great grandchildren, Ian Quebedeaux, Cole Quebedeaux, Gabby Quebedeaux, Marley LeBlanc, Peyton Sandifer, Gage Champagne, Olivia Champagne, and Riley Champagne.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Denis and Laura Blanchard Champagne; and three brothers, LeRoy, James, and Fred Champagne.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until time 10 p.m. on Wednesday and continue at 8 a.m. until time of service on Thursday.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Leonard Scrantz, Corey LeBlanc, Scott Quebedeaux, Rudy Champagne, Stewart Ketelers, Jr., and Edward Champagne.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
