St. Martinville - A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 8, 2012 at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Dennis Lee LeBlanc , 67, who lost his courageous battle with cancer on Friday, October 5, 2012, at his home. Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by his wife. Gift bearers will be his 7 grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gerry Broussard LeBlanc and is the loving father of Claire Mire (Chris), Chirsty Gorman (Mike), Jackie Courville (Robbie), Jennifer Thibodeaux (Ross), and Jeremy LeBlanc (Darleen). Dennis was especially proud of his 7 grandchildren - Andrew and Carly Courville, Ryan, Shelby and Jake Gorman, Lauren Mire, and Ava LeBlanc, and his 7 grand dogs. He is also survived by his precious mother, Verna Hebert LeBlanc; and his siblings, Mary Terry (Don), Jimmy Leblanc (Kathy), Isabelle 'Kizzy' Theriot (T-Colo), Bertha Blankenship, and Cathy Meche (Carl). Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Lee Roy LeBlanc, his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arnaud Hebert, and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert LeBlanc, Sr. He is an alumnus of St. Bernard Catholic School in Breaux Bridge where he established life-long friendships. Dennis is 1969 graduate of USL with a major in Agriculture. Dennis was a sugarcane farmer for 24 years. He retired from farming in 1995. At that time, Dennis turned his volunteerism as a Reserve Deputy into a full time second career as a Deputy with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office. Dennis loved his position with the SMSO, ultimately becoming director of Operational Development. Dennis worked on and later led the team responsible for the application and acceptance of the accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies for the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office. Dennis has always been civic minded and service oriented as evidenced by his membership and participation in the following: St. Martinville Jaycees, Knights of Columbus, St. Martinville Rotary Club, St. Martinville Volunteer Fire Department, Mercy High School Board, Reserve Deputy (SMSO), St. Martin Parish Farm Bureau Board Member, Board Member of the Breaux Bridge Sugar Cooperative, Kiwanis Club of St. Martinville, and the Catahoula Hunting Club. Dennis' special love was time spent with his family participating in his favorite hobby - camping. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to one of the following: M.D. Anderson, Heart of Hospice, or the St. Martin Parish Library. Pellerin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
