Dewey Berard

Cecilia - Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia, for Dewey Berard, 89, who passed away on Monday, February 16, 2009 at his residence. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cecilia. Father Chanh Nguyen will officiate at the funeral Mass. Readers will be Kayla and Nicholas Dupuis. Gift bearers will be Ludy and Ray Dupuis. Mr. Berard enjoyed crawfishing, doing yard work, planting flowers and gardening - he was known for sharing his vegetables with many family and friends. He loved family gatherings where he would often reminisce about the "good old days" and was always there for his family, whom he adored and would do anything for them at any time. He dearly loved his great grandchild, Brandon, and his grandchildren, Nicholas and Kayla, and had developed a special bond with each of them. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his daughter, Ludy Dupuis and her husband, Ray, of Cecilia; two brothers, Chester Berard and his wife, Laida, of Cecilia, and Maurice Berard, of Breaux Bridge; one sister, Pauline Savoy, of Cecilia; two grandchildren, Nicholas Dupuis and Kayla Sonnier; one great grandchild, Brandon Sonnier and his father, Dewey; and a niece, Oline Huval. He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Cotrel Berard; his mother, Bella Berard; a sister, Theresa Champagne; three brothers, Benette, William and George Berard; and a niece, Rose Ann Theriot. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 1:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Tuesday and continue at 7 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Ray and Nicholas Dupuis, Brandon Sonnier, Dewey Sonnier, Brent Huval, Jordy Huval, Troy Huval, Roy Huval, Leonard Marks and Chester Berard. The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice Care of Louisiana, Dr. Kemp Coreil and his staff, especially Melody, and Stat Home Health Care, who provided wonderful care and support during his illness. Pellerin Funeral Home of Cecilia is in charge of arrangements.
