Don was born on July 25, 1935, to the late Augustine Joseph and Agnes Harrington Rogers. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. For 65 years, he was a member of Verret-Bourgeois American Legion Post 335, which held a special place in Don’s heart. This post was named after Don’s godfather, Lionel Verret and Roland Bourgeois, both Avery Island natives who made the ultimate sacrifice in World War II, whose remains were never recovered. Don honored their legacy by flying the American flag proudly every day, embodying the values they stood for.
Don was retired from Iberia Parish Council Public Works, and was a longtime faithful member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Don had a zest for life that was evident in his many travels over the years, where he created cherished memories around the globe. He was also a passionate sports enthusiast. He loved watching LSU and ULL baseball and football games, and supporting the New Orleans Saints, celebrating victories and navigating defeats alongside fellow fans.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Betty Fitch Rogers; son, Kevin Rogers and daughter-in-law, Shannon Viator Rogers; daughters, Donna Rogers Semar and Crystal Rogers; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren, with another one due in June; sister-in-law, Gwen Landry Rogers; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bret and Elaine Segura Barras of Loreauville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Vaughn and Doris Fitch Johnson of Tehachapi, CA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James “Jimmy” Rogers and George Rogers; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gloria Dean Rogers Robichaux and John Lee Robichaux; Betty Rogers Dartez and Herbert “Boo” Dartez; in-laws, Landis and Vernette Armentor Segura, and Larry and Juanita Fitch; son-in-law, James “Jim” Semar; and brother-in-law, Paul Richard Segura.
Pallbearers will be Bric Rogers, Brady Rogers, Rylan Rogers, Bentley Segura, Jermaine Bob, Jr., and Louis Dreyer. Honorary pallbearer is Scott Semar.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Building Fund.
The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation to Homehealth and NSI Hospice; and to Mrs. Wendy Cole, Lorraine Lockhart and caregivers, especially Donna Watterson, for extraordinary care and compassion.
As we remember Don, we celebrate a life rich in service, faith, and love for family and community. May he rest in peace.
