Donald Ned Louvier, Sr.

Cecilia - A Viewing will be held at Pellerin Funeral Home, 2238 Bushville Hwy Cecilia, Louisiana 70521, commencing at 7:00 am on January 13, 2024, for Donald Ned Louvier, Sr., 88. He passed away peacefully with his wife, children, and grandchildren at his side, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette, Louisiana on Thursday, January 4, 2024.

The Rosary will be prayed at 9:30am Deacon Ken Soignier.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 2250 Cecilia Sr High School Hwy, Breaux Bridge, LA 70517.

Entombment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Garden Mausoleum, Crypt 209, Tier "A", St. Raphael Walk.

Father Michael Richard and Father Garrett McIntyre will officiate.

Donald was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on January 16, 1935, to the late Leonard Louvier, Sr, and late Mildred Ledbetter. He was a great husband, father, and provider. Donald was an athlete and an avid outdoorsman - hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, Donald is proceeded in death by six siblings, Willie Louvier, Barbara Jean Seabrook, Wafford James Louviere, Gerald Louvier, Leonard Louvier, Jr, and Rosemary McAdams; and one nephew, Paul Seabrooks, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Rhena Auguillard Louvier; son, Donald Ned Louvier, Jr; daughter, Monique Elizabeth Louvier; three grandsons, Donald James Simek-Carnevale (Brittani), Joseph Marcel Sampy, and Yashua Nehemiah Stevens; brother, Albert J. Louviere (Mittie); four great-grandchildren, Jaxson Michael Simek-Carnevale, Athena Grace Billingsley, Christopher James Simek-Carnevale, and Tristan Lee Simek-Carnevale; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other family.

Petty Officer 1st Class Donald Ned Louvier Sr. retired with a total of 30 years of service from the United States Navy in 1983.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1953-1959, and immediately saw combat during the Korean War, where he was wounded.

Donald joined the United States Navy after serving in the Air Force. Upon joining the Navy, he participated in the Blockade of Cuba, later known as the Cuban Missile Crisis.

 Following his participation in the Cuban Missile Crisis, HM1 Donald was deployed to Vietnam, where he again saw battle there as a Navy Corpsman. While attached to a USMC Force Recon Unit, he was wounded twice.

During his military service he received numerous awards, which included:

Vietnam Service Medal w/Silver Star 
Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device

Upon retiring from the military, he worked as a Medical Officer at Folsom State Prison, in Folsom, California.

The Louvier Family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Robin Swider, NP and her wife Kelleé Swider, PA, as well as all staff that directly cared for Donald at AIM Palliative Home Health, Breaux Bridge Fresenius, the Baton Rouge VA clinic, and Our Lady of Lourdes ICU.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Department of Louisiana Military Order of the Purple Heart in the name of Donald Ned Louvier, Sr.
