New Iberia - We thank you, God for blessing us with this wonderful being-A friend whose inner beauty was stunning and unforgettable. May she be at peace. May her soul be embraced by your love. Her spirit remains with us always along with all her treasured artwork. A native of Benton, Arkansas, and a resident of New Iberia, Louisiana for most of her life, Mrs. Dorsey died August 24, 2012 in Baton Rouge at her home following a long illness. She loved the New Iberia she had lived in for fifty previous years and moved to Baton Rouge due to illness. Doris was a member of various professional and civic organizations including the Daughters of the American Revolution. Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 26, 2012, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Rev. Steve LeBlanc will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 12 Noon until 3:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. ; ; Doris was a graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College, in Conway, Arkansas, and received her Masters of Education Degree from the University of Louisiana Lafayette. She taught for twenty years in the Iberia Parish School System, and thereafter was manager of Dorsey Insurance Agency for the next twenty years. Upon retiring in 1998, she enjoyed her many hobbies such as watercolor painting, stained glass work, writing and collecting cookbooks. Doris worked on and published several family trees including the LeBlanc, Powell, and Camp families. Visiting grandchildren were her greatest joy as well as calling her family and friends together for a meal. Daughter, wife and best friend, teacher, mentor, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and friend. We will all miss her. She was preceded by the death of her beloved husband of 63 years, Charles 'Pete' Dorsey. Mrs. Dorsey is survived by a son, Douglas Duaine Dorsey and wife Judy of New Iberia; daughters, Dr. Denise Dorsey and husband Charles Lee of New Orleans, DeLisa Arnold of Baton Rouge; six grandchildren, Douglas D. Dorsey, Jr., of Lafayette, David Dorsey of New Iberia, Dustin Dorsey, of Lafayette, Stefan Arnold, of Lafayette, Michelle Arnold, of Lake Tahoe, and Erica Lee, of Washington, DC; Her grandsons wives, Lisa Dorsey and Christy Dorsey, as well as three great grandchildren, Taylor and Garrett Dorsey, of Lafayette, and McKenzie Dorsey of New Iberia. Mrs. Dorsey is also survived by one brother, Richard 'Dick' Powell and wife Margaret of Little Rock, Arkansas, as well as numerous loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Dorsey was preceded in death by her parents, Ila and Tom Powell; grandson, Derek Scott Lee; and a brothers, Thomas 'Buddy' Powell, and Rip Powell of Arkansas. Pallbearers are grandsons of Mrs. Dorsey. Honorary pallbearers are Duaine Dorsey, Dick Powell, and Charles Lee. The family requests that memorials be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Building Fund, 2514 Old Jeanerette Road, New Iberia, LA 70560 or to Hospice of Baton Rouge, 9063 Siegen Lane, Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70810. Thanks to the blessed angels who cared for her during her long illness - Wynette Bell, Doloras Daniel, Helen Daniel, and Dorothy Herbert.
