Affectionately known as “Dot”, “Doll”, “Dot-tea”, “Granny”, and “Ma D” by her late granddaughter Meghan, Dorothy Mae Valsin Anthony, lived 4 score years and 10 (90). The eldest of 10 siblings, Dorothy was born on June 23, 1932 to the union of the late Eugene Valsin, Sr. and Ophelia Mitchell Valsin.
Dorothy married the late Clarence J. Anthony on February 19, 1955. Prior to Clarence’s passing in 2009, they shared 54 years of marriage. Through this blessed union four children were born; Darrell, Jacqueline, Charlotte, and Janise.
Dorothy was a faithful member of Notre Dame Catholic Church. She was passionate about attending mass on Saturday, where she sat in the second pew. She recited the rosary daily with great intention. As the matriarch, she instilled a love of faith and a devotion to the Blessed Mother in all her children. Dorothy lived a very good life and did everything her heart desired. She had a very contagious smile and warm demeanor, which was noticed by individuals she came in contact with.
Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed her daily conversations with her children and brother, Russell. In addition, she also cherished her weekly Wednesday “coffee talk” visits with Octave, her engaging conversations with her sister-in law Emily every Sunday after watching Jackie and Charlotte on Catholic Life TV (Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral), and her weekly enjoyable and meaningful conversations with in-laws Barbara, Elton, and Armatine and friend Ethel.
Dorothy spent many countless hours pouring wisdom and love into her children who called throughout the day. She advised Janise daily by assisting her in making good choices in life and waited patiently each morning to offer corrective criticism to ensure she was prepared for a successful day.
Dorothy worked as a seamstress at Martin Mill until her retirement. Thereafter, she became a homemaker, cook, caretaker, transporter, and comforter. During it all, Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a friend to many who shared in her life’s journey.
Dorothy loved the outdoors, especially planting and up keeping her beautiful flowers. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, dining out, and occasionally going out to the casino with her children. She also enjoyed riding to Baton Rouge to spend time with her daughters Jackie and Charlotte. While in Baton Rouge, she enjoyed attending mass at St. Joseph Cathedral with Bishop Duca. Dorothy completed her bucket list. She traveled by train, plane, car, and even went on a cruise. Dorothy was spoiled by her children and waited on like a queen (royal treatment).
She is survived by her son, Darrel J. Anthony (Josephine); daughters, Jacqueline Anthony, Janise Anthony and Charlotte Anthony; grandchild, Jarrad Anthony (Patrice); great-grandchildren, Jaycelei Anthony, Jreux Anthony, Jaxtyn Anthony and Mariana Williams; brothers, Octave "Jim" Valsin, Milton J. Valsin and Russell Valsin (Mary Alice); and her sister, Betty Wiltz (Robert).
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence J. Anthony; grandchild, Meghan L'Neese Anthony; parents, Eugene Valsin, Sr. and Ophelia Mitchell Valsin; sisters, Emily Valsin Raymond, Hazel Valsin Wiltz, Theresa Valsin Etienne, and Modeste Valsin Phillips; and her brothers, Francis Valsin and Eugene Valsin, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Leroy Anthony, Jr., Wilbert Anthony, Eugene Valsin, III, Patrick Wiltz, Brad Wiltz and Gerald Damon.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Darrell Anthony, Elton Anthony, Curtis Alexander, Dr. Keith Ramsey, Clyde Valsin, Stanley Valsin, Rodney Girouard and Kirk Malveaux.
