Dorothy Mitchell Lee

St. Martinville - Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, on Monday, May 20, 2013, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Saint Martinville, for Dorothy Josephine Mitchell Lee, 89, who passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at River Oaks Retirement Manor. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Notre Dame Catholic Church from 7:00 am until 9:45 am on Monday. A rosary will be recited at 8:00 am on Monday. Rev. Stanley Jawa, SVD, Associate Pastor at Notre Dame Catholic Church will officiate at the Funeral Service. Organist will be Justin Narcisse. Readers will be Melissa M. Jackson and TJ Briscoe. Gift Bearers will be TJ Briscoe, Charles Chapman, Jr. and Reagan Chapman. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville. Dorothy was an active member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, a member of Knights and Ladies of Peter Claver, a Fourth Degree Lady of Grace of Lafayette, LA, and a member of Good Will Society. While in Galveston, Texas she was the nanny to the children of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle McDonald. After their daughter Melinda McDonald went off to college and married Dr. Joey Lange, Dorothy became the nanny to their children, until she retired and returned to St. Martinville, LA. In addition she taught Religious Education classes to First Communion candidates at St. Patrick Church while in Galveston. She leaves to cherish her memories one sister, Mcrena M. Briscoe of St. Martinville; one brother, Henry J. Mitchell of Baton Rouge; one brother-in-law, Ralph L. Briscoe; one sister-in-law, Eva Mitchell; two nephews, Thaddeus Briscoe, Sr. and Ronnie Mitchell, Sr.; two nieces, Melissa Mitchell Jackson and Kimberly Mitchell Chapman; three great- nephews, TJ Briscoe, Charles Chapman, Jr. and Ronnie Mitchell, Jr.; one great niece, Reagan Chapman; and a host of cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Antoine J. Mitchell and Mary George Mitchell; one brother, Antoine J. Mitchell Jr.; and two sisters, Gladys Mitchell and Henrietta Mitchell. Pallbearers will be Thadeus Briscoe, Sr., Ronald Mitchell, Sr., Charles Chapman, Sr., Dr. Joey Lange, Collins James, Jr., and Frank Francis.
