New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Friday, April 16, 2010 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in New Iberia for Dorothy Trappey Rice, 89 who died Monday, April 12, 2010 in Lafayette. ;
Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. ;
Rev. Steve LeBlanc will be the Celebrant. Bill Weatherford and Chris Chustz will proclaim the readings. Gift Bearers include Julie Brown, Christie Tassin, and Travis Chustz. ;
Born October 25, 1920, Mrs. Rice was a retired secretary having worked for the Iberia Parish School Board, and the Iberia Golf and Country Club. She enjoyed gardening, reading, playing cards, baking, making pottery, and traveling. ;
Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Rice Weatherford and husband George of Lafayette, Susan Rice Chustz and husband Al of Lafayette; brother, George J. Trappey, Jr. of New Iberia; grandchildren, Bill Weatherford, Julie Brown, Christie R. Tassin and husband Randy, Chris Chustz and wife Angelle, Travis Chustz; great grandchildren, Hunter Brown, Jacob Brown, Madeline Tassin, Gabriel Chustz, Bella Chustz; step great grandchild, Alex Vincent; and a great grandchild due to arrive in November. ;
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Chick Rice; parents, George J. Trappey, Sr. and Eleanor Gonsoulin Trappey; and a sister, Mercedes Terrell. ;
Pallbearers will be Al Chustz, George Weatherford, Chris Chustz, Bill Weatherford, Travis Chustz, and George Trappey, III. ;
A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM on Thursday. Visitation will continue Friday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM. ;
