Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for Earl Joseph Broussard, Sr., 79, who died Sunday, March 11, 2007 at his residence in Breaux Bridge.
Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 1 in Breaux Bridge.
A native of Breaux Bridge, Mr. Broussard graduated from Breaux Bridge High and from SLI. He retired as captain with the National Guard after 20 years of service. He was a lobbyist with Gulf States Utilities Company from which he retired after 38 years of service. He served as past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, in which he was still an active member. He also served as a member on the St. Martin Parish School Board for 12 years. He was past president of the St. Bernard Parish Council, a member of the Holy Name Society, St. Bernard School Foundation, Eucharistic Minister and lector at St. Bernard Catholic Church. He was very instrumental in the development of the Borel Center. He was such a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed the art of joke telling. He loved gardening and shared the fruits of his labor with his family and friends. He also loved his church and gave tirelessly to serving the church and others.
Survivors include his wife, Marcelle Mondet Broussard; his sons, Jay Broussard and his wife, Madeline and Paul Broussard and his wife, Adrienne; his daughters, Virginia Champagne and her husband, Douglas "Gee", Suzanne Marks and her husband, Carl, Paulette Broussard, Liz Latiolais and her husband, Barry and Melanie LeBlanc and her husband, Jeff; his sisters, May Tauzin, Lucy Broussard, Lucille Olivier and her husband, Alton and Hilda Zaunbrecher and her husband, Felix; his grandchildren, Leah, Lindsey and Lyle Champagne, Lance, Jake and Jena Marks, Ryan and Sadi Latiolais, Brice and Tiffany Broussard, Blake and Renee LeBlanc.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Saul and Ona Tabor Broussard and his sister, Myrtle Fontenot.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 11:30 am ~ 10:00 pm Monday, March 12, 2007 and continue at 7:00 am Tuesday until time of service.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Monday.
Pallbearers will be Douglas "Gee" Champagne, Carl Marks, Barry Latiolais, Jeff LeBlanc, Mike Thibodeaux, Carlton "Kit" Castille, Clifford Hebert and Randy Anderson.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons and also Alton Olivier, Felix Zaunbrecher and Scott Angelle.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
