Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. , on Thursday, August 4, 2011 , at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge , for Edgar J. Alexander, Jr., 67. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race. I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 Edgar Alexander Jr., departed this life peacefully on Saturday, July 30, 2011 approximately 8:02 A.M. at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette , LA after a brief illness. Edgar is a native of Parks, LA. He was the son of Annette Aubrey Alexander and the late Edgar Alexander, Sr. Rev. Joseph Campion, will officiate at the funeral mass. Readers will be Marcie Mitchell and Sadie Mitchell. Gift Bearers will be Antoinette Celestine and Clemente Simon. Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery in Breaux Bridge . Edgar was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where he served as a loyal usher. He was a member of the True Friends Society of LaPoint, The Knights of Peter Claver Council #49, and the CB Club. Edgar wore many hats. He was a sports analyst, veterinarian, politician, counselor, salesman, a Spanish speaking interpreter, a certified cement finisher, and a licensed barber. Most importantly he was daddy, grandfather, brother, and paran. He enjoyed hunting with his friends and telling tall tales. He enjoyed people and he loved his family. He was a retired Auxiliary Officer with the St. Martin Parish Sheriffs Department for 20 years. At the time of his death he was employed by Pumpelly Oil Company, a job he took pride in for over 30 years. In 1963 he was united in matrimony to Janella Landry and from this union they were blessed with six children, Lisa Ann, Denise, Janice, Jules, Danielle, and Michelle. He leaves to mourn his passing his children, Lisa A. Boyd of Parks, Denise Alexander Potier and her husband, Alfred of Breaux Bridge, Janice Alexander of St. Martinville, Jules Alexander and his wife, Janice of Lafayette, Danielle Alexander of Parks, Michelle Alexander (Preston Celestine) of Youngsville and Samuel Elaire of Breaux Bridge; his mother, Annette Aubrey Alexander of Parks; his brother, Edward Alexander of Parks; his sisters, Antoinette Alexander Celestine of Parks and Clemente Alexander Simon and her husband, Bradley of Lafayette; his grandchildren, Danelle Alexander, Blake Alexander, Vanessa Alexander, Rachelle Alexander, Marcie Mitchell, Sadie Mitchell, Jules Noel, Shane Noel and Jacen Boutte; his great grandchildren, Brock Alexander, Morgan Alexander and Gaven Alexander; his aunt, Rose Alexander Lewis; along with special nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Edgar will be sadly missed by everyone. Edgar was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Alexander, Sr.; his paternal grandparents, George and Harriet Benoit Alexander; his maternal grandparents, Jules Aubrey and Naomi Thomas Aubrey; his uncles, Clarence Alexander, Sr., Dennis, Lennis, Clerify, John and Adam Alexander; his aunts, Felicie Alexander Thibodeaux, Ann Alexander Chatman and Mary Alexander Delahoussaye. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Wednesday and continue at 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Thursday. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Kevin St. Julien, Cornell St. Julien, Samuel Elaire, Terry Delahoussaye, Eric Ledet, Jr. and Chris Alexander. Honorary pallbearers will be Jules Alexander, Edward Alexander, Terry Boyd, Alfred Potier, Preston Celestine, George Lee, Shannon Simpson, Allen Paul, Albert Menard, Pumpelly Oil Company, and the Alvin Wiltz Family. A special thanks to all of the physicians and medical help who assisted him in his time of need. We thank you from the deep recesses of our soul. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel, we are overwhelmed by the love and generosity everyone has shown in our time of need.
