Breaux Bridge - Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Edmond Cormier, 85, who passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at St. Agnes Nursing Home & Rehab in Breaux Bridge. Entombment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 - Mausoleum in Breaux Bridge. Fr. Louis Allen Breaux will officiate at the funeral Mass. Scriptures will be read by Lou Theriot, Carolyn Broussard, and Bonnie Hunt. Gift Bearers will be Cecile Dupuis and Marie Broussard. Altar Servers will be Neil David Theriot and Luke Theriot. Mr. Cormier was the General Manager of Farm Bureau Insurance in Breaux Bridge, where he retired in 1993 after 42 years of loyal and dedicated service. He was a veteran of the United States Army having honorably served his country in the European Theatre during World War II. During his tour of duty, he fought in Germany and Belgium in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart. Mr. Cormier retired as Lt. Colonel with the Louisiana Army National Guard after serving for 28 years, and also served as Commander of the 156th Infantry Battalion. Edmond was a lifelong parishioner of St. Bernard Catholic Church, where he served as an Usher for over 60 years, and was an Adorer in the St. Bernard Chapel of Perpetual Adoration. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving as Commander, American Legion, Knights of Columbus Council, where he ;was a Grand Knight, the Breaux Bridge Area Chamber of Commerce, and Farm Bureau Insurance. Survivors include his wife, Theresa Theriot Cormier, of Breaux Bridge; and two brothers, Stephen Malo Cormier and his wife, Joycelyn, and Louis Bea Cormier and his wife, Nin, all of Breaux Bridge. He was preceded in death by his son, Bernard Cormier; his parents, Damas and Odelia Belaire Cormier; two sisters, Camila Delcambre and Amy Duhon; and three brothers, Edwin, Jacque, and Percy Cormier. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday and continue at 7 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. A rosary will be recited by Lou Theriot at 7 p.m. on Friday. Pallbearers will be Erroll Cormier, Larry Theriot, Gaylord Theriot, Allen Theriot, Perry Guidry, and Howard Broussard, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be his two brothers, Stephen and Louis Cormier, and Donnie Dupuis. Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
