Cade - Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at St. Mark Baptist Church in Cade, for Edna James Orphe, 81.
Interment will follow at St. Mark Baptist Cemetery in Cade.
Edna James Orphe was born February 12, 1928 to the union of Morris James, Sr. and Lena Simon James. She was a resident of St. Martinville, LA.
On Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Lafayette General Medical Center at 2:35 p.m. she departed as she accepted her call. She was a strong and vibrant woman, who was deeply rooted in her faith in God and family. Her belief and love for God always brought her through.
On February 6, 1948, she married Adolph Orphe, Jr. To this union, they had seven children. She leaves to mourn her memories: Wilbert Orphe and wife, Helen of Bowie, Maryland; Elnora Orphe Plumbar and husband, Harold of Lafayette, LA; Sharleen Orphe JeanBatiste of Cedar Hill, TX; Sharlert Orphe of Washington, DC; Ray Orphe and wife, Claudia of St. Martinville, LA, and Mozella Orphe of Cade, LA; her sisters, Mecora Fontenette of St. Martinville, LA; Gloria Dalcourt and husband, Henry of Cypress Island, LA, and Gloria James of New Iberia, LA; 21 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in deaths by her husband, Adolph Orphe, Jr.; her son, Elwood Orphe, Sr.; her parents, Morris James, Sr. and Lena Simon James; sisters, Verna James Louis and Rosa Mae James; and brother, Morris James, Jr.
The family requests that visitation be observed at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday, and continue on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
