New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, on Friday, September 11, 2015, at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia, for Edvidge "Blackie" Derise Trahan , 97, who passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. Gary Schexnayder will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Thursday. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM.
A native of Jeanerette, and a longtime resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Trahan was born on January 30, 1918 to Dorville and Natalie Hebert Derise.She enjoyed gardening, yardwork, sewing, and cooking. Mrs. Trahan had an abundance of love and was a friend to everyone..
Survivors include her children, Mike Trahan and wife Janenne of New Iberia, Steve Trahan and wife Ronda of New Iberia, Diane Trahan of New Iberia, Susan Boutte of Lafayette, and Lucille "Bea" Theriot of Breaux Bridge; sister, Doris Lancon and husband Stanley of Saint Martinville; brother, George Derise and wife Darlene of Jeanerette; 8 grandchildren, Phil Boutte and wife Monica, Craig Boutte and wife Nicki, Sean Trahan and wife Amy, Joshua Trahan and wife Meagan, Jennifer Trahan and fiance' Justin Trahan, Shane Trahan and girlfriend A.J. Menard, Lee Trahan, Jerry Trahan and wife Melissa; great grandchild, 11 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, and other relatives and friends who loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Wesley Joseph Trahan; brother, Alton Derise; sisters, Betty Green, and Valerie Legnon.
Pallbearers will be Phil Boutte, Craig Boutte, Shane Trahan, Jerry Trahan, Sean Trahan, Joshua Trahan, and Jennifer Trahan.
Honorary pallbearer will be Lee Trahan.
The family would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Trahan's caregivers, Tess Feast and Dot Lewis, and also to Louisiana Hospice and Pallative Care of Opelousas.
