Coteau – Funeral services will be held at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, for Edward Romero Jr., 76, who passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 14, 2024, with his family by his side.
Entombment will follow at St. Anne’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Youngsville, with military honors by the Acadiana Veterans Honor Guard.
Rev. Keith Landry will officiate.
Visitation will be at Pellerin Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.
A rosary, led by Deacon Durk Viator, will be prayed at 6:00 pm on Monday.
A resident of Coteau and a native of Youngsville, Edward Romero Jr. was born on June 28, 1947, to the late Edward Romero Sr. and Mabel Menard Romero, and was a 1965 graduate of Youngsville High School.
Mr. Romero proudly served our country in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era, where he showcased his skills as a marksman and sharpshooter. He continued his service as a member of the American Legion, embodying the values of honor and duty.
Edward's commitment to service was evident throughout his career. He worked as a lineman and later became a volunteer Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Romo Romero. His dedication didn't stop there; Edward retired from AT&T in 2010 after 38 years of service as operations manager. His hard work and leadership were truly commendable.
Beyond his professional life, Edward found joy in various hobbies and interests. He played softball for many years and shared his passion for sports by coaching baseball at the air base (Acadiana Regional Airport). He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, camping, bowling; these all brought him immense happiness, especially when enjoyed with his beloved family whom he adored.
Mr. Romero is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lynnell Girouard Romero; four children, Brian Romero (Tonya), Jamie Romero (Lori), Trevor Romero, and Kristi Romero Bizette (Scott); a brother, Harris Romero (Linda); grandchildren, Chelsea Chastant (Tyson), Caleb Romero (Autumn Forestier), Jessica Miller (Tim), Michael Gonzales (Alyssa), Hannah Gonzales (Ryson Romero), Tyler Romero (Hanna), Harley Romero (Quinten Gulotta), Kaeden Cook, and Austin Bizette; great-grandchildren, Grace, Grayson, Raelynn, Emery, Gage, Crew, Kason, and Emersyn; brother-in-law, Chuck Wheatley; and a sister-in-law, Amy Chenevert.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Charles Romero, Juanita Wheatley, and Christian Romero; and sister-in-law, Judy Romero.
Pallbearers will be Caleb Romero, Michael Gonzales, Tyler Romero, Kaeden Cook, Austin Bizette, and Tyson Chastant.
Honorary pallbearers are Scott Bizette, Ryson Romero, Quinten Gulotta, Tim Miller, and Kyle “Tubby” Stevens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Vietnam Veterans of America.
Edward leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication to community, and love for his family and country. In this time of grief, let us remember his kind spirit and unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. May he rest in peace.
