New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:00 PM Thursday, March 22, 2012 at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia for Edwin Anthony Ashy, 89, who died Monday, March 19, 2012 in New Iberia .
Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.
Rev. Angelo Cremaldi will be the Celebrant.

Born on March 27, 1922 , he was the son of Gabriel and Nazira Ashy. Ashy enjoyed collecting bottles and antiques, recounting family histories and participating as the founder and captain of the Krew of Andalusia for much of his adult life.
Ashy was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II and was a Fouth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Kiwansas and Optimist clubs in past years.
Ashy was a graduate of St. Peter's College in New Iberia , and the Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette , in sociology. He also studied at Louisiana State University and Tulane University . He worked professionally as a state juvenile probation and parole officer out of the Acadiana area until his retirement in 1973.
'Uncle Edwin' was much beloved as a patriarch and chronicler of the family's history going back generations. He was also a great friend to many in Acadiana, especially his beloved Krewe of Andalusia.
He is survived by a niece, Sylvia Sliman Gruber of New Iberia ; nephew, Teddy Sliman, Jr.; great nieces and nephews, Robert R. Jones, III, Theodore Kenly Jones, Paul Jones, Shauntelle Sliman Tatford, Kayla Sliman Voxx, and Theodore Anthony Sliman, III. He is also survived by numerous great great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Olga Ashy, Beatrice Ashy, Anaise Ashy, Josephine Ashy, and Yvonne Ashy Sliman.
Pallbearers will be William Gruber, Theodore Sliman, Jr., Robert Jones, Kenley Jones, Paul Jones, and Theodore Sliman, III.
Honorary pallbearers Adolf Voxx, and Dr. Brent Tatford as well as Taylor Barras and Leon Minvielle representing the Krewe of Andalusia.
