Catahoula - A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 pm, on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at St. Rita Catholic Church in Catahoula, for Edwina Barras Eisenstein, 73, who passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville from 10:30 am until 1:15 pm on Tuesday, June 25, 2013. Rev. Richard Fabre will officiate at the Memorial Service. Mrs. Eisenstein was retired from the St. Martin Parish School Board, where she taught for 23 years. She served as the leader of the Future Homemakers of America and was a member of the Book Club in St. Martinville. Mrs. Eisenstein loved teaching and enjoyed her students and their visits with her even after their graduation. Edwina had a passion for gardening, sewing, traveling, and working with her horses - it brought her great joy to see them in the pasture each and every day. Her most treasured times were those spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and her pets. She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved her. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Leonard Louis Eisenstein of St. Martinville; four daughters, Katherine E. (Mike) McNeely of Parks, Laura E. (Mark) Scrantz of Cecilia, Delia E. (Chris) Self of St. Martinville, and Eileen E. (Andre') Dupere of Candia, NH; two sisters, JoAnne Broussard of Lafayette and Inez Barras Banta of Newcastle, WY; and six grandchildren, Kristine McNeely, Wade Scrantz, William Scrantz, Bailey Eisenstein, Patric Dupere, and Nordica Dupere. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmo and Inez Greig Barras; her sister, Jeannette Horn; and her parrain, Edwin Barras. Memorial donations may be made in her name to a charity of your choice.
