Elie Melancon

St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, in St. Martinville for Elie Melancon, 91, who died on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at his residence in St. Martinville. Entombment will follow at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville. His son, the Rev. Bill Melancon, will officiate at the funeral service and Rev. Austin Leger will serve as the Homilist. Serving as lectors are Robin Cazalot and Amy Robertson. Serving as gift bearers are Ryan Melancon, Megan Melancon and Tyler Robertson. Elie enjoyed gardening and worked as a sugar cane farmer. Survivors include his wife, Modeste Poirrier Melancon, of St. Martinville; his sons, Roy Joseph Melancon and his wife, Dorothy, of Coteau, and Fr. Bill John Melancon, of Carencro; his daughters, Nell Marie Boudreaux, of St. Martinville, and Irene Boudreaux, of New Iberia; his brothers, Antoine Melancon, of St. Martinville and Joseph Melancon, of Lafayette; his sisters, Rita Touchet, of St. Martinville and Alice Frederick, of Breaux Bridge; his daughter-in-law, Marie Dore Melancon, of Loreauville; 17 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ren and Euchariste Champagne Melancon; one son, Ray Paul Melancon, Sr.; his brothers, Amar, Albert, Lawrence and Maurice Melancon; and his sisters, Theresa LeBlanc, Lita Touchet and Josephine Latiolais. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Monday, July 30, 2007 and continue at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday until time of service. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Pallbearers will be Rene Melancon, Scotty Boudreaux, Harold Boudreaux Jr., David Boudreaux, Ray Melancon Jr. and Timmy Melancon. Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Elie Boudreaux, Brian Melancon and Darren Melancon. Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
