Elizabeth Jeanne LeBlanc was born on June 20, 1933 to Allen and Noelie LeBlanc of Cecilia, Louisiana. In an attempt to escape the numerous pranks of one of her brothers, she would often be found at the home of “NinNin” Guilbeau, where she developed her love of cooking and baking. When she was a teenager working for Dr. Earl Moreau, she set her eyes on her future husband and love of her life, Ted Cormier. Together, they raised a family of three, with Betty devoting her life to raising her children. Ted and Betty were married until Ted’s death in 1992 from cancer. It has been said by many (if not all) family members that she was the sole reason Ted passed purgatory and went straight to heaven, but we digress.
After Ted’s passing, Betty moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, where she befriended numerous people, though her heart still remained in Cecilia. In fact, if anyone needed to find out what was going on in Cecilia, all they had to do was call Betty – she was, after all, affectionately known as the “Teche News”.
Betty never met a stranger and could even find all the ways in which they were related; on the rare times she couldn’t, she considered them family, nonetheless. She generously baked wedding cakes and catered events for her beloved friends and family, rightfully earning another moniker, “Betty Crocker”. Her love of cooking and baking was only overshadowed by the fierce love she had for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved openly, honestly, fully and freely.
To know our “Granny” was to love her. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her son, Brian Keith Joseph Cormier of Butte La Rose; daughters, Elizabeth Stelly and husband Frederic of Breaux Bridge and Deidre M. Cormier of Lafayette; daughter-in-law, Stella Herwig of Breaux Bridge; grandchildren, Tera Simon and spouse Rene', Ashley Green and spouse Chad, Jared Stelly, Michelle Duplechien and spouse Logan, Chase Blanchard and spouse Amber, Meagan Courville and spouse Ryan, Andie Cormier, and Krissie Cormier; and 20 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Allan and Noelie Champagne LeBlanc; husband, Ted Paul Cormier; an infant daughter, Edna Cormier; brothers, Roland, Ronald and Allan A.J. "King" LeBlanc; and her sister, Marie "Petit" Albert.
Pallbearers will be Jared Stelly, Chase Blanchard, Ryan Courville, Logan Duplechien, Rene' Simon, and Chad Green.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Cormier, Frederic Stelly, Aidan Green, Gabriel Simon, Michael Simon, and Noah Green.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Stephen Simpson and to the staff of Heart Hospital of Lafayette for their care and compassion.
