Ellis James Melancon, Sr.

Breaux Bridge - A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 pm, on Monday, August 24, 2015, at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge, for Ellis James Melancon, Sr., 72, who passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Lafayette General Medical Center. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Sunday, and continue on Monday at 7:00 am until 11:45 am. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Sunday. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Mr. Melancon was a Riverboat Captain and a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. He was a reserved deputy of the St. Martin Parish Sheriff Department. He is survived by his loving spouse of 52 years, Jean Hebert Melancon; his sons, Jimmie Melancon and wife Stacey and E.J. Melancon and wife Brandi; his daughters, Dixie Durio and husband Kim and Nicole Landry and husband Chuck; his brothers, Michael Melancon, Francis Melancon and wife Paula, Darrell Melancon and wife Pamela, and Rickey Melancon; his sister, Renella Boudreaux; his granddaughters, Misti Delahoussaye and husband Todd, Mia Collet, Marla Collet, Hailey Melancon, Ashlyn Landry, and Brandi Landry; his grandsons, Lee Durio and wife Tonia, Noah Melancon, and Peyton Melancon; his great-grandsons, Jacob Delahoussaye, Cole Theriot, and Kai Delahoussaye; and his great-granddaughter, Kamile Delahoussaye. He was preceded in death by mother, Edith LeBlanc Melancon; father, Ramsey Melancon; and brother, Thomas Melancon.
